About Counselling

Beginning counselling can feel a scary process so having a little information about how counselling works maybe helpful. Counselling can help you make sense of difficulties that you may be experiencing and can provide a regular space where you can talk through how you are feeling. By going through this process you can learn new coping techniques, gain further understanding with the aim of helping you move forward.

HOW DO I KNOW IF COUNSELLING IS RIGHT FOR ME?

You never know unless you try....but only you can decide. Counselling is there for anyone who is facing difficult times, needing support or guidance or just needing someone to talk to.

HOW IS COUNSELLING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE DIFFERENT TO COUNSELLING ADULTS?

Sometimes children and young people need support to help manage or understand their emotions arising from difficulties they maybe experiencing. The way I work with Children and Young People differs from the way I work with adults and it depends upon their age and stage of development. My aim is to help with recognising their strengths and weaknesses and to encourage a positive attitude to their lives and to themselves.

With very young children I use play therapy comprising of different resources, (drawing, art resources, games etc), to help identify the cause of their distress.
